Rory McIlroy shoots 8-under 62 | Round 1 | Travelers | 2022

In the opening round of the 2022 Travelers Championship, Rory McIlroy carded an 8-under 62, one clear of the field for a tie for the lead with J.T. Poston heading into Friday.

Fresh off a second-place finish at the 2022 U.S. Open, World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler leads the field this week at TPC River Highlands, while 2021 winner Harris English will look to defend his title in his third start since having hip surgery in February. However, with the top three players in the FedExCup Standings also in action, the Georgian will face stiff competition. These include Rory McIlroy, who will be full of confidence after defending his title at the RBC Canadian Open and subsequently finishing an impressive T5 at the U.S. Open. Sam Burns will be looking to continue his remarkable form, which has already seen him win three times on the PGA TOUR this season at the Sanderson Farms Championship, the Valspar Championship and the Charles Schwab Challenge. Other notable names to keep an eye on include FedExCup champion Patrick Cantlay, Jordan Spieth and Tommy Fleetwood.
